13 October 2024

On  October 12th 2024, the ceremony of awarding the title of Honorary Professor to Vincenzo Longo, CNR Research Director, associated with the Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology of Pisa, took place at the University of Life Sciences of Lublin (Poland).

The Veterinary Disciplinary Counciland the Academic Senate of the University of Life Sciences of Lublin on May 7th 2024 approved the title of Honorary Professor to Vincenzo Longo for the important scientific research carriedout, the results achieved and the long collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Life Sciencesin Lublin.

Dr. Vincenzo Longo, during his scientific career has carried out research in the field of biochemistry, molecular biology, toxicology and nutraceuticals.
In particular he was involved in the study of the cytochrome P450 enzymaticsystem in the liver and especially in the olfactory epithelium of various mammals.
He purified and characterized for the first time a new isoform of cytochrome P450 in the bovine olfactoryepithelium that had never been studied until then. Furthermore, he has published works demonstrating that some cytochrome P450 enzymes in the olfactory epithelium have a different regulatorymechanism than in the liver where this system is particularlypresent. He has carried out important interaction studies betweencytochrome P450 and nutraceutical components present in plantsand foods.
Many of his publications concern the health effects of food products.
Author of over two hundred papers on the above-mentioned topics, coordinator of projects and of many scientificcollaborations with National and International Institutions.
In particular, for about twenty years it has been collaborating with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Life Sciences of Lublin (Poland) and this collaboration is producingscientific papers, exchange of researchers and PhD’s student.
