The Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology

The Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology (CNR-IBBA) belongs to the Department of Biology, Agriculture and Food Sciences (DiSBA) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).

Active in the fields of genomics, genetics, biochemistry and physiology of organisms of agricultural interest, the IBBA is a research organization whose activities are located in the area of ​​plant and animal biology, agriculture and nutrition.

Mission

The Institute carries out research, technology transfer and training activities with a unique mission: to broaden the scientific knowledge relating to the molecular basis that regulate the functioning of biological systems of agricultural interest in the plant, animal and microbial field, both at the cell and organism level, so as to develop programs aimed at improving the quality and sustainability of agri-food production.

European Night of Researchers – 29 September 202315 September 2023

The appointment with the European Night of Researchers is back again this year and the IBBA together with the entire Rome 1 Research Territorial Area of ​​the CNR is organizing a program full of initiatives on September 29th starting from 6.00 pm until 11pm. Over 50 laboratory and educational activities, seminars, performances and workshops as well as “scientific” games.
ZEPRION: IN ORBIT TO DEVELOP NEW DRUGS2 August 2023

Launched toward the International Space Station is the Zeprion experiment, which will be tasked with confirming the molecular mechanism behind an innovative pharmaceutical protocol to combat prion diseases. Developed by an international team of researchers, including Italian scientists from the universities of Milano-Bicocca and Trento, the Telethon Foundation, the INFN National Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology of the National Research Council (CNR-Ibba), the experiment could have important spin-offs for other diseases as well.

The Animal Germplasm Cryobank created by the Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology of the National Research Council (IBBA-CNR) in collaboration with the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences of the University of Milan (DIVAS-UNIMI) has been registered to the national network of biodiversity of agricultural and food interest.
