After the silence imposed by the global pandemic situation, this year, in the month of May, we return to celebrate the International Day of Plants.

The Fascination of Plants Day (FoPD), an event now in its sixth edition and promoted by EPSO (European Plant Science Organization, www.epsoweb.org), an association that brings together more than two hundred and twenty research institutions, universities and departments in Europe, wants stimulate dialogue between research institutes and citizens on the importance of plants.

In fact, in addition to being the origin of all the foods we consume, plants are an essential source of raw materials and are a fundamental component of both the landscape and the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Due to the growing need for a sustainable economy, agriculture and plants will play a fundamental role in the coming years for a new way of producing based on the use of renewable resources and ecologically sustainable processes.

For this reason, on the occasion of the Fascination of Plants Day 2022, in various cities scientific institutions, universities and research centers, together with farmers and companies, will open to the public botanical gardens, experimental greenhouses, laboratories and museums to make known the beauty of the world. some plants.

The Institute of Agricultural Biology and Biotechnology of the National Research Council will once again be one of the protagonists of this initiative this year. In Milan, at the Research Area in via Corti 12, researchers will hold seminars and workshops for adults and high and middle school students on May 17, 18 and 19.
